Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the <D.FESTA Small Theater Festival> has strived to lead a better performing arts culture by identifying changes in the domestic production environment and the direction of the performance market. Its purpose is to explore new avenues for experimental and creative small theater performances. Since 2016, efforts have been made to bridge the cultural gap not only in Seoul's Daehak-ro but also nationwide through inter-regional exchanges with cities such as Gwangju, Daegu, Daejeon, and Busan. Furthermore, as a result of consistently expanding its scope through cultural exchanges with overseas teams, the festival is now able to visibly showcase the results of these ongoing international cultural exchanges this year, including the Asian Co-creation Project with Asian countries such as Sapporo and Tokyo in Japan, China, and Taiwan, as well as the Small Theater Festival in Tokyo. Now is the time to strive for the globalization of the small theater festival by expanding its biennial regional hosting to link with festivals in various countries, so that it can grow into an international festival as well as a domestic one. As a starting point, I hope that the successful hosting of this ใD.FESTA Small Theater Festivalใ, marking its 20th anniversary, will serve as a stepping stone to promote excellent domestic performances abroad and to gauge and understand the cultural standards of overseas nations.
