Dobong Hangeul Festival

Hangeul is a script born of understanding the human heart, connecting one another's thoughts and intentions. It conveyed the hearts of the people who found it difficult to express themselves, and served as a beacon of hope that steadfastly preserved the spirit of our nation even amidst a dark history. Dobong-gu, Seoul, is a place imbued with the spirit of historical figures who created, protected, and enjoyed Hangeul, ranging from Princess Jeongui, daughter of King Sejong, to Gansong Jeon Hyeong-pil and Widang Jeong In-bo, who preserved our language and writing during the Japanese colonial period, and the poet Kim Su-yeong, who sang of freedom through Hangeul. 2026 is a significant year marking the 580th anniversary of the promulgation of Hunminjeongeum, the establishment of Hangeul Day, and the 100th anniversary of the creation of Hunmaengjeongeum, our script for the visually impaired. Accordingly, the Dobong Cultural Center is hosting the 15th Dobong Hangeul Festival, titled "Breaking Through the Darkness, Connecting Hearts," to reflect on the humanistic heart embodied in Hangeul and the spirit of those who protected it through the darkness of the times. We aim to create a festival venue that connects the history of creating, preserving, and enjoying Hangeul with the figures and cultural resources of Dobong, and shares it with us today through exhibitions, performances, and experiences.
