Bonghwa Pine Mushroom Festival

In the late 1990s, Bonghwa County began to recognize high-quality pine mushrooms, which grow naturally in its pristine nature and deep forests, as a future regional resource. In particular, "Bonghwa Pine Mushrooms," a rare resource that grows only in clean forest zones at an altitude of over 600 meters, attracted the attention of gourmets both domestically and internationally due to their distinctive aroma and texture, which set them apart from mushrooms from other regions. Utilizing these precious resources, Bonghwa County planned a "nature and gastronomy fusion festival" that went beyond simple promotion of local specialties to foster harmony between residents and tourists; it was against this backdrop that the "Bonghwa Pine Mushroom Festival" took its first steps. Launched in 1997, the festival was held throughout Bonghwa County, centering on pine mushroom harvesting experiences, pine mushroom dish tastings, and local specialty sales. With the active participation of local residents and the widespread recognition of the mushrooms' excellence, the Bonghwa Pine Mushroom Festival gradually established itself as a representative autumn gourmet festival in South Korea. In particular, the Songi Festival is growing beyond a simple consumption event into a comprehensive festival where culture, tourism, and the economy harmonize by spreading the values of nature conservation and coexistence and linking with traditional performances, experiences linked to local agricultural products, and tourism circulation programs.
