*The festival details below are for the previous year (2025), and the details for 2026 are currently being updated.* The Jinju Namgang Lantern Festival originated from the Battle of Jinju Castle during the Imjin War, where lanterns were floated on the Namgang River to prevent the Japanese army from crossing and to send greetings to their families. It is a premier festival that has expanded overseas, having been designated as a representative festival of Korea by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and selected as a Korea Global Festival for five consecutive years.
