National Heritage Media Art is a cultural heritage festival held annually in various regions across the country, featuring our 'National Heritage' as its theme. It is hosted by the National Heritage Administration and organized by the National Heritage Promotion Institute. Marking its sixth year since its inception in 2021, the event is set to beautifully adorn the National Heritage sites of 12 regions through diverse programs utilizing the latest ICT technologies. In 2026, media art will be presented to reexamine the history held within each cultural heritage site and maximize its value, set against the backdrop of the 'Goryeo Palace Site' in Ganghwa and the 'Workers' Party Headquarters' in Cheorwon in the [Gyeonggi/Gangwon Region]; 'Daereungwon' in Gyeongju, 'Tongdosa Temple' in Yangsan, 'Jinjuseong Fortress' in Jinju, and 'Samdo Naval Command Headquarters' in Tongyeong in the [Gyeongsang Region]; the 'Former Gunsan Customs Main Building' in Gunsan, 'Jinnamgwan' in Yeosu, and 'Mireuksa Temple Site' in Iksan in the [Jeolla Region]; and 'Jeongnimsa Temple Site' in Buyeo, 'Admiral Yi Sun-sin Historic Site' in Asan, and the 'Iron Flagpole at Yongdusa Temple Site' in Cheongju in the [Chungcheong Region]. Through this, you can encounter moments where the heritage of the past connects to your present life and shines brightly.
1. Gyeonggi/Gangwon 1) Ganghwa 'Goryeo Palace Site', etc. Event Period: Sep. 4 (Fri) โ Sep. 27 (Sun), 2026 Venue: Ganghwa Goryeo Palace Site, Ganghwa Anglican Cathedral, Ganghwa Fortress (North Gate), etc. Event Content: Centered on the 'Goryeo Palace Site', the event revives the patriotic spirit embodied in Ganghwaโwhere the capital was relocated to resist the Mongol invasionโthrough media art. 2) Cheorwon 'Workers' Party Headquarters' Event Period: Sep. 11 (Fri) โ Oct. 11 (Sun), 2026 / *Closed every Tuesday and on Chuseok Day Venue: Cheorwon Workers' Party Headquarters Event Content: Delivers a message of freedom and peace through media art at the 'Workers' Party Headquarters', a historic site commemorating the history of the Korean War and division. 2. Gyeongsang 1) Gyeongju 'Daereungwon' Event Period: Sep. 4 (Fri) โ Sep. 27 (Sun) Venue: Daereungwon, Gyeongju Event Details: Recreates the brilliant history and cultural spirit of Silla in a modern way against the backdrop of 'Daereungwon,' where Silla royal tombs such as Cheonmachong are concentrated. 2) Yangsan 'Tongdosa' Event Period: Sep. 28 (Mon) โ Oct. 18 (Sun), 2026 Venue: Tongdosa, Yangsan Event Details: Provides an immersive experience reaching the inner state of 'Tranquility' through media art at 'Tongdosa,' one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites under 'Mountain Monasteries, Korean Mountain Monasteries.' 3) Jinju 'Jinjuseong' Event Period: Aug. 14 (Fri) โ Sep. 6 (Sun), 2026 Venue: Jinjuseong, Jinju Event Details: Implements media art connecting the past, present, and future at 'Jinjuseong,' one of the sites of the three major battles of the Imjin War. 4) Tongyeong 'Samdo Naval Command Headquarters' Event Period: Sep. 18 (Fri) โ Oct. 11 (Sun), 2026 Venue: Tongyeong Samdo Naval Command Headquarters, Sebyeonggwan, etc. Event Content: Expressing the 'Samdo Naval Command Headquarters'โwhich served as the southernmost fortress and hub for maritime logistics during the Joseon Dynasty, as well as a center of craft culture through the production of military supplies and tribute goodsโthrough light. 3. Jeolla 1) Gunsan 'Former Gunsan Customs Main Building,' etc. Event Period: Aug. 21 (Fri) โ Sep. 13 (Sun), 2026 Venue: Former Gunsan Customs Main Building, Gunsan Inner Harbor Historical and Cultural Space, Former Gunsan Branch of the 18th Bank of Japan, Former Gunsan Branch of the Bank of Joseon, etc. Event Content: Shedding new light on the memories and values of modern Gunsan against the backdrop of modern national heritage sites such as the 'Former Gunsan Customs Main Building.' 2) Yeosu 'Jinnamgwan' Event Period: Sep. 12 (Sat) โ Oct. 5 (Mon), 2026 Venue: Yeosu Jinnamgwan Event Content: Reconstructing the history of 'Jinnamgwan' through media art as the central naval base that led to victories in the Imjin War and the Jeongyu War. 3) Iksan 'Mireuksaji' Event Period: Sep. 4 (Fri) โ Sep. 27 (Sun), 2026 Venue: Iksan Mireuksaji Event Content: Presenting a modern reinterpretation of the hopes and harmony of King Mu and the people of Baekje, who dreamed of unifying the Three Kingdoms at the Baekje capital of 'Mireuksa'. 4. Chungcheong 1) Buyeo 'Jeongnimsaji' Event Period: Sep. 11 (Fri) โ Oct. 1. (Thu) Venue: Jeongnimsa Temple Site, Buyeo Event Details: Realizes a mysterious journey that transforms the Jeongnimsa Temple Site into a media art space by reinterpreting the Doctoral System and the specialized skills that led the golden age of Sabi Baekje culture through media art. 2) Asan 'Yi Chungmugong Historic Site' Event Period: Sep. 18 (Fri) โ Oct. 11 (Sun) Venue: Asan Yi Chungmugong Historic Site (Hyunchungsa Shrine) Event Details: Aims to carry on the patriotism, leadership, and spirit of sacrifice of Admiral Yi Sun-sin through media art at the historic site of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, 'Yi Chungmugong Historic Site (Hyunchungsa Shrine)'. 3) Cheongju 'Yongdusa Temple Site Iron Flagpole', etc. Event Period: Aug. 28, 2026 (Fri) โ Sep. 17. (Thu) Venue: Cheongju Yongdusaji Iron Flagpole, Mangseonru, Chungcheongdo Byeongmajeongdosayeongmun, Cheongnyeonggak, etc. Event Details: Media art will be showcased at locations embodying the thousand-year history of Cheongju, ranging from the Goryeo Dynasty cultural heritage 'Yongdusaji Iron Flagpole' to the Joseon Dynasty cultural heritage 'Mangseonru'.
