About this event

Samnangseong Fortress, which surrounds Jeondeungsa Temple, is said to have been built by Dangun's three sons to defend against foreign invasions. It is also the site where, after the Goryeo Dynasty relocated its capital to Ganghwa Island to escape the Mongol invasion, the Great Buddha's Five Teachings were performed for 120 days within the temporary palace at Samnangseong Fortress, fueling a burning will to resist the Mongols. Furthermore, it served as the location where the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty were preserved for 250 years and is the site of victory during the Byeongin Yangyo, where French forces were repelled. Moreover, it is the place where righteous armies achieved victory in a week-long battle against Japanese imperialism during the late Joseon period. It is a site of national pride that has continuously interacted with our history for 5,000 years and embraces it. To foster a sense of pride in our glorious history and to widely promote it, the Samnangseong History and Culture Festival is held annually starting on the first Saturday of October, marking its 26th edition this year.
