Myeongmul Sikdang serves Jeju-style braised fish, or jorim, from a plain dining room near the port in Samdo-dong. Hairtail or mackerel is simmered slowly in a sweet, moderately spicy chili sauce with thick slices of radish and potato until the flesh turns tender and flaky. The room draws local residents more than tour groups. Spooning the braising sauce over a bowl of rice is the standard way to eat here, and in summer the kitchen also serves mulhoe, a chilled raw fish soup.
