About this event

*The festival details below are from the previous year (2025); the 2026 details are currently being updated.* Since ancient times, Gwangju has established itself as a culinary hub, blessed by nature where plains, mountains, fields, and the sea harmonize around the Yeongsan River. Among these, Gwangju Kimchi embodies the richest flavors and atmosphere, to the extent that it is known by the proper nouns "Jeolla-do Kimchi" and "Gwangju Kimchi." Gwangju Kimchi is characterized by the generous use of seasonings, including various vegetables, anchovy fish sauce, glutinous rice porridge, and whole sesame seeds. Selecting fresh ingredients, preparing them with care, and making them using the most basic methods, all while adding a personal touch—this is the special recipe of Gwangju Kimchi. The Gwangju World Kimchi Festival is a venue for citizen experience where our unique food culture and traditions embodied in kimchi meet; as Korea's representative kimchi festival, it is a celebration enjoyed by everyone. It can be described as a truly substantial festival where transactions and promotions take place simultaneously between kimchi producers and consumers.
