Tongyeong Hansan Battle Festival

*The following festival food details are from the previous year (2025); the 2026 festival details are currently being updated.* The 65th Tongyeong Hansan Battle Festival is Korea's representative patriotic and historical cultural festival, held to commemorate the victory at the Battle of Hansan, one of the three major battles of the Imjin War, and to reflect on the patriotic spirit and leadership of Admiral Yi Sun-sin. The festival takes place throughout Tongyeong City around the anniversary of the victory, the 7th day of the 7th lunar month (August 14th in the Gregorian calendar), and consists of programs that allow visitors to vividly experience historical stories, such as the reenactment of the Battle of Hansan, the procession of the Commander of the Three Naval Districts, the departure ceremony, and the victory celebration arrival ceremony. Furthermore, by operating content that can be enjoyed by various generations—including traditional culture experiences, performances, exhibitions, marine leisure sports, media content, and nighttime programs—the festival has established itself as a destination accessible to everyone, regardless of age or gender. Based on Tongyeong's beautiful sea and historical and cultural resources, we aim to provide a special festival experience where tradition and modernity harmonize, and to leap forward as a global festival representing Korea in patriotism and historical reenactment.
