National Contemporary Dance Company <Seat and Wrinkle: Yeongwol>

"Seat and Wrinkle" is a mixed reality performance series that mourns and remembers together those who have vanished or are fading away. Song Ju-won understands both human and non-human beings as living entities, taking the loss, extinction, and death of these beings as fundamental issues to explore the possibility of a communal experience that shares collective mourning and remembrance with the audience. "Seat" refers to the space or place where the entanglement of beings occurs. "Wrinkle" refers to the mode of existence that unfolds and folds; it is a pattern of memory engraved in time and a surface that the body reads through touch. Seats and wrinkles call to each other. A seat embraces a wrinkle, and a wrinkle unfolds a seat. The pattern engraved in time by a single seat is the "wrinkle of the seat," and the space where that wrinkle unfolds is the "seat of the wrinkle." The series traverses two axes. The first half, centered on the axes of the "seat of death" and the "death of the seat," is a time for the audience to confront the wrinkles that have vanished or are disappearing within time. The latter part centers on the 'place of memory' and the 'place of mourning,' where the 'memory of wrinkles' and the 'mourning of wrinkles' unfold through the entanglement of audience members. Moving between augmented reality and virtual reality, the audience becomes both a player and a performer traversing the physical and the virtual. The movements and interactions between the audience and virtual beings, and between audience members themselves, weave an entanglement of mourning, caressing the wrinkles of existence and writing down new memories.
