About this event

The Semiwon Lotus Festival is a representative summer garden culture festival held at Semiwon, located in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do. Semiwon is a garden of water and flowers surrounded on three sides by Paldang Lake, featuring traditional Eastern garden styles and housing approximately 270 species of plants, including aquatic plants. It was designated as Gyeonggi-doโ€™s first Provincial Garden in June 2019 and was developed as a space where visitors can experience both natural ecology and garden culture. The Lotus Festival is an event centered around the lotus, Semiwonโ€™s signature plant, and features various exhibitions, performances, and hands-on programs timed to coincide with the blooming season. Visitors can admire the lotus and aquatic plants planted throughout the garden and experience the value of garden culture and the beauty of nature through lotus-themed cultural and artistic content, as well as educational and experiential programs. The Semiwon area is known as the site where Jeong Yak-yong, a scholar of practical learning during the late Joseon Dynasty, installed a pontoon bridge across the Namhan River, making it a place of historical significance. In addition, equipped with various facilities such as the Lotus Museum, Jangdokdae Fountain, Sehanjeong Pavilion, and Baedari Bridge, it serves as a complex cultural space where visitors can experience garden culture, history, ecology, and arts and culture together.
